Before starting an apprenticeship as an inland shipping specialist or sailor at Argentum Ship Management, you must first complete an internship on one of our ships. This will help you determine whether this is the right career choice for you. The internship lasts between a week and 20 days. During this time, you will be able to get to know our ships and our colleagues well.

ASM Inland crew service jobs

Captain (m/f/d)

Objective / Purpose of Position:

  • Management and safeguarding of the ship, responsibility for the safety of ship, crew personnel management

Main Responsibilities:

  • All tasks that are necessary for a safe command of the vessel
  • Taking over command of the ship when required

Requirements:

  • Good command of English language
  • Competed training with valid Captain licenses for Rhine/Danube/Elbe and/or other rivers
  • Minimum 3 years of experience on a similar position
  • Radar and Radio Transmission licenses
  • Friendly and work-oriented personality

Sailor (m/f/d)

Main responsibilities:

  • Assisting Captain/Steersman
  • Wheelhouse duty, and working on the deck
  • Safe working during deck work and manoeuvres
  • Assisting/executing safety and security protocols

Requirements:

  • Good command of English language
  • ASM Inland Crew Service book with Rhine Sailor qualification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience on a similar position
  • Certificates for “Breathing Device Operator” and “First Aid” are a benefit
  • Friendly and work-oriented personality

Engineer /Trainee Engineer

Duties / Responsibility:

  • Maintenance and monitoring of all machines - facilities and equipment
  • Reports all noted problems or damages immediately to the Captain on duty and Technical Superintendent
  • Does routine work (oil changes, any kind of maintenance) independently
  • Monitors and checks waste water tanks
  • Responsible for technical material such as tools, expendable items (air filters, light bulbs)
  • Responsible for a clean and safe engine room (safety hazards)
  • Responsible for placing requisitions of expendable items in cooperation with the Captain
  • Monitoring the supply and quality of the drinking water (sample and test the water)
  • Enters the test results correctly into the drinking water log book
  • During bunkering (gasoil, lubricating oil) a responsible person must be stationed

Engine room log:

  • Daily entries of the levels of gasoil, lubricating oil and hydraulic oil
  • Daily entries in the engine maintenance book (temperatures, pressures and operating hours)
  • Note levels at the beginning and at the end of every cruise
  • This initial and end inventory must always be given to the Captain in writing
  • Keep a log about repairs that involved exchange of parts and hand it over to the Captain

Replacement of parts:

  • indicate type and order number
  • Check the repair journal at reception every morning, midday and evening and fix the noted defects
  • Put up and secure gangway
  • Make sure that sufficient lighting is provided at night or in poor visibility
  • Always be friendly and courteous towards everybody, especially guests and crew
